Orthopaedic Tumors

The Orthopaedic Tumor service provides diagnosis and treatment for bone and soft-tissue tumors. A multidisciplinary team of orthopaedic surgeons, bone radiologists, pathologists, and oncologists emphasizes limb-salvage procedures in lieu of amputations. Salvaged limbs are reconstructed either by massive bone and joint allografts or customized metal prostheses.

Bone Tumors: Although these tumors are rare, when they occur, they require expert diagnosis and treatment in a medical center that specializes in these disorders. Fortunately, today, there are life and limb saving treatments that are being developed every day to treat these tumors.

Sarcoma: A sarcoma is a benign or malignant tumor which develops in the soft tissue. Benign tumors do not spread and are rarely life-threatening. However, malignant tumors can invade nearby organs either causing symptoms or interfering with normal body functions. In either case, treatment for soft tissue sarcomas usually requires surgery.
